Pine cone Project

Pine cone project, made in Spain + England
In this project I looked at nature, and later how we can manipulate a natural form by deconstructing it and then artificially reconstructing it, exploring how we can never reach full perfection when working with something that naturally follows golden ratio.
In the images above i captured the pine cone form of the from different angles. Focusing on how it naturally follows golden ratio.
I then smashed it to break the structures within the pine cone, leaving me with many little segments that I the arranged into a spiral like composition, similar to that of its natural form.
I made some quick sketches of the pine cone before smashing it. The image furthest to the right shows experimentation in ink, the left, charcoal.
Further sketching using charcoal.
While I worked on my project in Spain I used local clay to reconstruct the pine-cone. At some point on its journey back to England it shattered. I thought this was fascinating, I had intentionally smashed it once, yet the pine-cone had been put under stress due to its surroundings and naturally broke again forming a cycle that i could not fully control.
I gathered the smashed reconstructed pine-cone...
I used local clay in England to reconstruct the smashed reconstructed pine-cone, taking each segment and forming one body, including the pieces of Spanish clay that had been used to hold it together, that had inherited imprints from the segments of the pine-cone.
Finished result of a now multi-cultural re-reconstructed pine-cone
